Book Week should be the highlight of the school library calendar. For most teacher librarians, it's the point in the year the pressure hits hardest.

We've spent the last few months talking to our schools about what Book Week actually looks like from the inside. Three patterns kept surfacing.

1. The budget isn't there.

Recent research from Dymocks Children's Charities found that 12 out of 47 state schools surveyed had no budget at all for new books. A parliamentary inquiry found 54% of government schools operate on a library budget under $5,000 a year. The average age of resources in some libraries sits around 20 years. Book Week arrives, expectations are high, the shelves haven't refreshed.

2. The time isn't there either.

92% of Australian teachers say they don't have enough time to prepare effectively for teaching. 31 of the 47 schools in the Dymocks study reported having one librarian or none. Book Week planning falls on people who don't have the hours to plan it. Penguin Australia even publishes an annual guide called "How to make Book Week less stressful". That tells you everything.

3. The shelf isn't ready.

Even where budgets stretch, physical Book Week orders take weeks to arrive, get catalogued, and land in students' hands. By the time the CBCA winners are announced, most of the shortlisted titles are already borrowed, on hold, or missing from the collection entirely.

Together on this one.

ePlatform is a trusted FSI Marketplace partner. Together, we've been watching the same pressure build on the schools we serve, and Book Week 2026 was the moment to do something about it.

We've partnered with ePlatform to bring their eBooks and Audiobooks into your library for the Book Week season. Their curated K-12 collection, aligned to the Australian curriculum and including the 2026 CBCA Notables, now flows straight into SmartSuite Library through our federated search integration. Same search bar. Same discovery experience. Bigger catalogue.

Places are limited to the first 150 schools that opt in. Every FSI school can opt in through the FSI Marketplace, and students get access the moment the portal goes live.

The power of the partnership

Every sign-up or renewal of ePlatform through the FSI Marketplace earns your school a $250 ePlatform content credit each time you renew. That's the FSI Marketplace working the way it's meant to. Real partnerships, real value flowing back to the schools that use us.

Opt-ins close 31 August.

Book Week shouldn't be a burden. This year, it doesn't have to be.
