What is FSI WebCat?

Made for the browser tab where you already work.

Every teacher-librarian has been there. You find a brilliant article, a government resource, a news story, a research database, a maker-space video. You want it in the catalogue so students can find it later. But adding a web resource used to mean copying the URL, switching tabs, opening the catalogue, pasting, typing a title, typing a description, tagging subjects. Every add was a five-minute detour. WebCat makes it one click.

One click. Browsing to catalogued.

Find a page worth cataloguing. Click the WebCat icon. Hit Add. The whole thing takes about five seconds.

No personal data collected.

WebCat does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. No user profiles. No browsing history.

Data goes to your server only.

The only data WebCat handles is the metadata of the page you're actively cataloguing. That data goes directly to your own school's SmartSuite Library server. Nowhere else.

No analytics. No tracking. No third-party sharing.

WebCat has zero analytics, zero tracking pixels, and zero third-party data sharing of any kind.

Privacy first

Zero tracking. Zero third-party data. Your data goes to your server.

WebCat does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. It reads only the title, URL, description, author, and keyword metadata of the current page, and sends that data directly to your own school's SmartSuite Library server. Nowhere else. No analytics. No tracking. No third-party data sharing.

WebCat is only for SmartSuite Library schools.

No other Australian or New Zealand school library platform offers one-click web cataloguing from your browser. WebCat is built on the same platform that powers Circulation, ACARA-Sync, SmartSearch, Discovery, Interlibrary Loans, and Print Studio. Every feature works together, every day, in every SmartSuite Library subscription. That's the power of SmartSuite Library.

FSI WebCat - FAQs

How much does FSI WebCat cost?+
Nothing. WebCat is included with every SmartSuite Library subscription at every school size. Free to install from the Chrome Web Store.
Do I need a separate login for WebCat?+
No. WebCat uses your active SmartSuite Library browser session automatically. If you're logged into your school's SmartSuite Library in Chrome, WebCat is logged in too.
Which browsers does WebCat work on?+
Google Chrome on desktop. Because it uses standard Chrome extension technology, it also runs on Chromium-based browsers like Microsoft Edge and Brave, though we officially support Chrome.
Can I edit the details before I add a page?+
Yes. Every field is pre-filled but editable. Click "Edit details before adding" in the WebCat panel to review or change the title, URL, author, keywords, or description before saving to your catalogue.
I manage more than one school library. Can WebCat handle that?+
Yes. If your SmartSuite Library account has access to more than one school, WebCat shows a dropdown so you can pick which catalogue the page gets added to.
What data does WebCat collect about me or my students?+
None. WebCat has no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party data sharing. The only data it handles is the metadata of the page you're actively cataloguing, and that data goes directly to your own school's SmartSuite Library server.
What if the metadata WebCat pulls isn't quite right?+
Expand "Edit details before adding" and change any field before saving. You can rewrite the title, description, or subject keywords to match your library's conventions.
Where do WebCat resources appear in the catalogue?+
In your catalogue under Web Resources, alongside your other digital records. Students and staff find them through the library portal exactly like any other resource.
What if I want to give feedback on WebCat?+
A space for WebCat feedback is open in the FSI User Community. Log in to SmartSuite Library, then Menu > Support > FSI Community.
